The Bubble Gum Money

Waffles money smells like bubble gum to me. I love it. I have played with him for 3+ years now and I cant remember a time he ever left the table with money. I am sure he will say at the very least he is break even with me but at one point early on in our lives together my wife made me stop playing him because she was afraid he would either kill himself or lose all his family's money to me.

My little buddy is going through some tough times right now so I want to make sure that I was there for him to take his mind off the little things like a failing marriage and very little in the looks department. So after I watched him bust out in the RC last night I decided I wanted to play a few hands and help him boost his ego... poor waffles

Busto!

I loved it! It was like jumping out of a plane with no parachute while wrestling a crocodile that is on fire with a time bomb on its tail!
-ScottyMc on why he plays Pot Limit Omaha

When I look back at my time playing poker I can see many times when I “got broke”. Most of the time I would just reload and get it going again, rebuild and then play for another year before variance caught up with me. Poker was always easy to sit and do and if I played my game I won and if I got away from my game I would lose.

Back in the Party Poker days I was strictly a limit player. I would 6 table mid-limit holdem $3-$6 to $5-$10 and eek out about 4 BB per hour profit per table. I needed to play by the book at that point because when I first made the switch to online poker I lost about $19K in 8 months trying to play to big and too fast. There I was spending 10-16 hours a day in front of a computer with 6 tables opening clicking a button like a Monkey in hopes of a banana falling out of the sky. God Damn I was bored. Anyone that knows me or has ever read this blog or any of my other blogs knows I got a wee bit of a addictive personality. Like an addict we tend to use whatever drug we are on until we get tired of it or die, always looking for the next high to get us going. For me it was November of 2002

I need a new drug.

I was sick and tired of playing on PP and while I had dug myself out of a $19K hole and was well into the positive in poker bank roll Limit hold’em just wasn’t getting me high anymore. Like any good drug if it doesn’t melt your butter it is time to find a new one. I left Party Poker for Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars and left Limit games for the high of NL- hold’em Poker and repeated history. My first month playing NL poker I got killed, I played way to big and way too long and was on the verge of getting broke. I didn’t care though I was on a rush I felt great; I felt the tingle in my belly. I was on the outside looking in and loved it. To this day I still recall the words of my old poker Guru…

“If it doesn’t hurt it isn’t fun”

I LOVED THE HURT. Oddly enough a few things happened. Full Tilt started to take off and a flood of new players joined the games and poker on TV happened and that gave us the boom to the game. For 5 years I sat in the NL games on FTP and Stars and got my nightly fix. I never lost too much and was always in the game. In 2003 I recorded 3 $10K profit months, coming into 2004 I was high as a kite but maintaining that high was hard.

I tried everything I could to stay up but online poker wasn’t making me tingle like it use to. I started concentrating on live games around Austin, first on the weekends and the finally after about 5 months I was playing 5-6 nights a week. I killed the games. I was so jacked up on my high that nothing else mattered. I would take off work in the middle of the day and go hit the room. I was at the room so regularly that the guy that ran the game bought me a safe so I could keep my money there instead of carrying around large sums of cash.

Coming Down

I got a call one night from my wife telling me she just fell off a chair changing a light bulb and thought she broke her leg. I was sitting in a game and it was FAT. I was up about $2100 that night and there was another $10K on the table calling to me. I was so high on the game I didn’t want to leave. I fought off the urge to lie and left the game making it home right as the fire department was pulling up. The wife’s leg was not broken just bruised real bad; it was me that was really hurt. I realized that night that I was so high on poker I couldn’t operate as a normal human. I cut back on the games greatly and tried to avoid online play all together. I spent more time with my wife and played just a few times a month. Life was good and I was getting high at home cooking for the family and watching TV with my son. Life was good…

The Urge

It was about the time the BBT3 started last year that the urge kicked in. Work sucked on a level I had never seen. Add the stress of 2 new mouths on the way and like any junkie I needed to get high. I had been playing sporadically but when the dragon pokes his head out of the cave there is no middle gear. I hit the poker tables online again. Ah sweet pleasure. I could feel it running warm through my veins, BBT3 events nightly and the Bodonkey going on!!! Ah sweet, sweet nectar. I was killing the tournaments and cash games online at bodog and doing great at the cash games on FTP too. It was during this time that I started playing PLO live and online. I was first turned on to it during a Skillz event and I remember how sweet it was. It was so crisp and clean and NEW, the pain it caused the sweet sweet hurt it brought. Nightly I would flop the best hand and lose to the donkey that called. The soul bruises it caused felt so painful but all I needed to ease the pain was to log in again and load another table.

I was backed for most of the BBT3, not because I needed the money mainly because I didn’t want to take money away from my PLO habit. I was up to 4 tables a day at that point and the cash reserves were dwindling down. Luckily I had a stopping point in mind. I promised my wife that once the BBT was over and the girls were born I was going to quit…I did and it didn’t hurt. There were no shakes the night sweats didn’t get me. I was at home playing with my kids instead of playing with my little computer.

Cold Turkey

I was good for about 6 months. I loved being at home and being the Dad. I had no urges, I was to busy being ankle deep in baby bottles and shitty diapers. Worked sucked more than anything, but it didn’t matter because I was at home with my girls and my son. I had quit cold turkey and had no crippling urges.

The sickness

I am not sure when it happened but one day I woke up and found I was playing PLO. I had jumped back online and moved some money from a few other poker accounts around and was doing good playing NL but I would have 5 tables up and one of them would be PLO. It felt so good clicking the buttons… POT! REPOT!!! 16 outs twice let’s get it in with 2 to come! POT! POT POT! I loved it! It was like jumping out of a plane with no parachute while wrestling a crocodile that is on fire with a time bomb on its tail!

In one session on Bodog I started playing $100 PLO and was up $4k in 6 hours only to lose it all in 25 minutes when I moved up to $1000 PLO. What did I care I had started the session that week with $100 bucks and worked my way up.

Rock Bottom

I have seen my somewhat healthy bankroll get completely depleted and my “just in case” bankroll is wiped out. As it stands today I am … BUSTO… Pot Limit Omaha has been my weakness and my weakness has gotten me broke. Once again I am an addict without a drug.

Maybe Waffles will loan me $11 so I can play the Mookie this week.

I hate Houston

The BBT4 is here! I am on the fence about playing this year. I am sure I will hit some of the events like the Mookie and the Big Game but will probably skip the rest. Last year I went into to poker overload trying to get in as many games as I could and by the end I was just phoning it in.

Top Five Things I hate about Houston and the surrounding Area.

5. Ethnic Diversity

Please understand that I have nothing against Ethnic diversity if it is celebrated. This place however is the largest melting pot of races I have ever seen where everyone hates each other and wants to be separated. The lines are clearly defined. If you go down that road and take a left it is China town and for God’s sake don’t stop there and ask for directions they will just yell at you. If you take that exit off the freeway you are in the “Black” part of town and make sure you look your doors when you go there. They look at White people like they insane. Hang a right of that road over there and you hit the Mexican part of town. Be careful there are kids are all over the place unattended. My favorite however is the WHITE part of town. I never seen anyplace in my life so strict, it is like everyone is assigned a role to play. All the houses look the same all the cars look the same all the streets look the same. Please, Please , Please don’t try to fuck with the status quo and do anything that is “Off White” they will freak the fuck out.

All of these people together in one place in the 4th largest city in the USA and I have never seen so much outright hate split down racial lines.

Don’t get me started on the cops here. I LOVE cops I really do. I think they get the worst rap in the world 98.5% of the time but the cops here in Houston… shit they will kill you for turn signal violations. I wrote a song about it… wanna hear it??? Here it goes.

Drivin while black Drivin while black

If you are in the wrong place will shot you in the back.

We don’t care

If you live there

We will drop your ass and cover you with crack

Drivin while Brown Drivin while Brown

We are going to kill your Latin ass for being in the wrong part of town.

Drivin while Brown Drivin while Brown

If you are in Bellaire we are going to put you down.

Drivin while black Drivin while black

If you are local celeb you still get no slack

Drivin while black Drivin while black

You drive a nice car you must deal crack

Drivin while Brown Drivin while Brown

You must be illegal if you live in this part of town

That is my “Drivin while Ethnic Song”…it is soon to be a hit.

4. All the Baptists / Mega Churches

For Fucks sake how many churches the size of airports do we need? Joel Osteen is here.

His church is now in the old Summit where the Rockets use to play.

He has another one over on the Gulf Freeway that looks like a small airport.

You also get to see the 2nd Baptist church… don’t know the difference between them and the first Baptist except they have a church the size of a Mall down the street from my house.

3. Road Rage (Thiers not mine)

Almost daily I see shit happen a stoplight here. I have seen men throw down over not letting someone else in I have seen women ram the back of cars in anger. Just last Friday I say a guy get out of his car and go all bat-shit crazy with a crowbar on another person’s car. I have seen cars side by side on the Freeway doing 60mph with people throwing shit out the windows at each other. I myself have twice gotten out of my car and knocked on someone’s window to chat with them about how stupid their driving is. We are not talking about Chinese driving or old folks in California near farmers market driving. We are talking about normal people like you and I that get behind the wheel of a car and for some fucking reason think that whatever they have to do today is more important than the life of my children and me.

2. Over population of shitty restaurants while not having enough decent places to eat.

Ok I am a wee bit of a snob when it comes to food. You wouldn’t know it by the foods I eat but rather the places I chose to eat it. I like nice places to eat and by that I don’t me Fancy I mean nice places with good atmosphere and good service. The following is a list of places you will NOT find me

Applebee's Neighborhood

Black Eyed Pea

Chili's Grill & Bar

Chipotle Grill

Cracker Barrel Restaurant

Denny’s

Fuddruckers

International House of Pancakes

Johnny Rockets Restaurant

Luby's Cafeteria 485 S. Mason Rd. Katy, TX 281-492-2016

Outback Steakhouse

Panera Bread 19502

Rainforest Café

Red Oak Grill

Rib Room

Saltgrass

Souper Salad

Texas Roadhouse

TGI Friday's Restaurant

Wings & More

These are all within 15 minutes of my house and I try to avoid them at all costs

There are a few mom and pop type places around but none are overly exciting to go to. I just don’t want to go to a place where I am going to be forced to eat and pay for the latest trendy grill mixed with “insert booze name here”.

Far and away the best restaurant I have eaten at here in town is Vida Loca in Katy. This place has the best services of any restaurant I have eaten at in the last 5 years. If you are in the area stop but and pick yourself up a “Gorilla” to drink!

1. Urban Sprawl and shitty areas

Holy fuck nuts are there some shitty as places here. I fully understand that there was a Hurricane here a few months back but in some places that only helped to improve the look. There are entire areas here where people just don’t give a flying fuck about how the area looks. Now remember I grew up here and have been coming here for years since I left but haven’t lived here full time since I was 12. I can truly tell you if I had to grow up in this town I would be a pimp-crack dealing-cop killer-Massage parlor owning thug.

Add the shitty looking areas to the areas where you just can’t get away from traffic and apartment complexes next to cookie cutter suburbs and it makes a guy want to go insane.

Thats about all I got for today. just so I dont fill the whole day up with hate here is my favorite clip from the "AWARDS" season

This is what the bailout was for?

Holy Monkey fucking a football!!!

What the hell is going on here? I have been apart of some really bad company parties and team builders but this is unreal.

On to other news...

I decided to sit down and play a little poker last night and work some of that thrilling Mookie Winnings into a little run. I ran AA into a runner runner 4 flush in the Daily Double A and ran KK into 44 in the B, so I got that going for me.

I want to thank everyone that sent me emails about my Mookie win and also good Ju-Ju on my Camp Profile... no I was not fucking the ferret.

Marshall Howland: lol
Marshall Howland: WHAT DID YOU DO TO THAT POOR FERRET!
williamscottmcmillan: fuck off
Marshall Howland: lool
Marshall Howland: is that true? hahaha
Marshall Howland: i cant stop laughing
williamscottmcmillan: yes it is in fact true
Marshall Howland: she really flicked you
Marshall Howland: BWAHAHAHAHAHA

SO now I got Waffles of all people laughing at me which means I have hit total rock bottom!!!
